Field Sales Guide

Targeting criteria, door script, and objection responses for door-to-door canvassing. The goal: Demo → Quote → Deposit → Scheduled Install — all at the door.

Where to Knock

Don't knock randomly. Use these criteria to identify high-conversion doors before you walk up.

Recent Break-In Activity

Check local Facebook groups, Nextdoor, and police blotter reports. Neighbourhoods that just experienced incidents are primed — residents are already thinking about security.

Field Tip

Lead with: "There have been a few incidents on streets nearby — I wanted to make sure you'd heard about it."

Affluent Neighbourhoods

Higher-value homes are targeted more often and homeowners have more to protect. They're also more likely to invest in premium protection.

Field Tip

Focus on: Lorne Park, Oakville, Forest Hill, Rosedale, Etobicoke waterfront, Unionville.

Large Front Windows

Homes with floor-to-ceiling or large picture windows are visually vulnerable. The homeowner can see the risk — you just need to name it.

Field Tip

Point at the window: "This is the most common entry point we see. One strike and someone's inside in under 10 seconds."

Ground-Floor Entry Points

Side doors, garage windows, basement windows, and sliding doors are all high-risk. Homeowners often overlook them.

Field Tip

Walk the perimeter with them: "Most people protect the front — but this side window is what we see used most often."

Backing Onto Trails or Green Space

Homes with rear access from parks, ravines, or trails have a blind spot. Intruders use these routes specifically because there are no witnesses.

Field Tip

Ask: "Do you have a fence back there? A lot of homeowners don't realise how exposed the rear of the property is."

Corner Lots

Corner properties have more street exposure and more entry points. They're statistically targeted more often.

Field Tip

Mention: "Corner homes have two street-facing sides — that's twice the exposure. We see them come up a lot."

Door Script

A proven 5-step sequence. Adapt the language — don't read it verbatim.

1

Open

"Hi — I'm [Name] with Dakota Property Protection. I'm in the area today doing free security assessments for a few homeowners. Do you have 2 minutes?"

2

Hook

"We've been seeing a lot of activity in this area lately — [mention local incident if known]. I wanted to make sure you knew about a simple upgrade that most homeowners here haven't heard of yet."

3

Demo

"Can I show you something on your window? It takes 30 seconds and it'll make sense immediately." [Pull out sample film and demonstrate impact resistance]

4

Question

"What's your biggest concern — break-ins, storms, or both? Most people in this neighbourhood say [X]."

5

Close

"I can do a full assessment right now — walk the property, check your entry points, and give you a quote before I leave. No obligation. Want to do that?"
